Biography
Growing Up: How Art Shaped Me
Born in California, I've spent most of my time residing in Los Angeles county. In some instances, outside of the country. Moving constantly became the normal routine.
My passion for art began around the age of 6, inspired from my Abuela's sketchbook, which contained colorful sketches of pavos reales, rosas y mariposas.
Art for me was always a pathway to happiness, the light in the darkness.
It's been a way for me to cope with anxiety & depression when nobody was around. Currently, I can say I still use this coping mechanism to push forward. It helps express who I am, what my interests are, & how I feel.
From Pencil to Tablet
The Journey of Art: My Story
Art is a form of expression, displayed in a variety of ways. How I'd express myself was through drawing, illustrating, & playing instruments.
While it helps paint a beautiful fantasy, it also opens your eyes a harsh reality.
When I turned 12, the shift from Traditional to Digital was tough for me to overcome. From a humble, worn-down wooden pencil to a high-end tablet, reality had opened my eyes. I've always dreamt of becoming a Digital Artist, yet it always seemed so far-fetched considering my economical standing.
The wooden pencil however, still remains in my heart. My roots to where I began art. Where my passion started.
Art in the form of paintings & music has helped me grow into a better person. It's helped me express things I cannot with words. Although my journey hasn't been the best or the brightest, I've learned to find beauty in the dark.
Medicine & Art
A Humble Relationship
Sometimes, people ask me: "Why Medicine, and not Art as a Career?"
Art is a way for me to express myself, to share my experiences with others. Keeping it a hobby leaves me free from restrictions, like a butterfly free in the sky.
For me, Art & Medicine has always gone hand-in-hand growing up. The relationship formed when my younger brother constantly had to be interned at the hospital. At times when we were apart, Art comforted me when I was alone at home. It gave me a sense of reassurance when I needed it most.
Yet, I still felt helpless. I wanted to find a way to help my brother recover. The constant trips to the hospital however, never scared me. Rather, intrigued me to learn from it. The more I visited, the less I feared.
As I would walk down the crowded pale halls to see my brother, my eyes would often lock with other patients along the way. Some looked lifeless, others looked fragile to the bone, as if their colors were sucked out of their souls. My want to help others, blossomed then.
Visits became volunteer hours. The hospital became my second home.
With art, I can help bring a splash of color into those who feel hopeless.
With medicine, I can help those recover in my community & abroad.
